Trees in downtown Asheville come down

Share

Crews are removing a number of trees from around downtown Asheville. A set of trees along College Street next to the Biltmore building have been taken out, and several trees in front of the Haywood Park Hotel are coming down. The trees are being replaced. The city’s explanation is here.

Wow – just read "Can't wait til my fro is full grown's" comment. I wonder how long it took him to think of "dumbfella837"?

Bradford Pears are pretty pretty, but the lifespan is also brief. Better to cut them and replant than have to face a lawsuit over a falling branch, or tree on a tourista.

Bradford Pear trees are the worst junk trees around. There are far better trees to plant on downtown streets. CUT 'EM DOWN and replace with something better suited to downtown.

That was a needlessly alarmist post title. How about something like "Trees being replaced in downtown Asheville"?

What's the big deal? Most of what's coming down are Bradford pears anyway. Bradford pears drop branches at the slightest touch, and they reek when they're in bloom. There are better street trees. And as for the trees on College? Those are a bunch of sickly maples. They live, they die, they get replaced with something that's hopefully better-suited to an urban environment.

Thank you dumbfella837. As a matter of fact, i read three stories confirmaing, not what you are claiming, but what I have posted. "The tree's will be left until after the the blooming has ended." See if you can find that in the newsstory. Perhaps, YOU need to smoke less schwag- and more kind." Ignorance may be temporary, but stupidity is FOREVER!.

The trees are going to be replaced. Sounds like you need to smoke a tree and calm down….and read the rest of the post!

It's sad to see our city budget, which is in dire straits, afford the cost to cut down the trees in dt AVL. Perhaps we could visit the homes of persons responsible and take out a couple of their trees.Sound fair? ABSOLUTELY!
