Things we learned on fifth-grade field trip

Share

1. When an 11-year-old taps his nose and tells you “Bat in a cave,” that means you’ve got a booger that needs tending.

2. Fifth-grade girls heart Nintendo DS, a system like a Gameboy that has the capacity to link up and communicate with other Nintendo DSs within a short radius. The girls can instant message things like, “Tell Luis I love him, and send kisses.” It’s virtual note-passing. Nintendo Dogs, or a name similar, is also apparently very cool.

3. Speaking of fifth-grade cool, you’re not unless you have some sort of gizmo. Kids today take their pick: Nintendo, Gameboy, PSP, Ipod, or any other CD player, mp3 player or handheld game.

4. Halloweentown was on Nickelodean and it’s apparently a cool movie. “Return to Halloweentown” is the latest.

5. It’s ok to burst into tears for no apparent reason in front of your fifth-grade friends. This wasn’t the case back in the day.

Love number one. Hate it when people ignore pepper in my teeth, bats in my caves, and, as my girl calls it, eye goo.

I heard you cried a lot in 5th grade. It’s OK buddy. Just let it out. There you go. Here, blow. Just let it out. Those guys really aren’t your friends, are they?
