The Wednesday night dailies: Le finds a legend

Artemis in Ashvegas

John “Punnyman” Le ran into a legend Wednesday night while he was doing some dumb story on beer-bingo night at Barley’s.

Artemis Pyle, of legendary rocker band Lynyrd Skynyrd, was there, and of course, Le couldn’t get by without a dumb “Freebird” pun that literally hit the ground with a thud.

Only in Ashvegas would you run into a member of one of the greatest Southern rock bands of all time just hanging out at the local pizza joint. And only in Ashvegas would the local TV news tag the guy “Southern rocker” on the screen, a tag that hardly does him justice.

A storm report

The local Tv news is so desperate to keep the weather a top story that they’ve resorted to blowing out individual thunderstorms as top stories. Tonight it rained in south Ashvegas. Yes, some water did get into a few homes and businesses. But the hurricane is long gone, folks. Let’s give it a rest.

‘As we first told you’-not

Diva Darcel and her cohorts tonight did a follow-up story about the tragic shooting deaths of two girls in Polk County and the suicide of the shooter. “As we first told you last night…” blah, blah, blah, said Darcel, in her holier-than-thou reporter tone.

No, you didn’t first tell me. When will you WLOSers get that through your thick little skulls. Someone told me that the story first broke on the Hooterville newspaper’s web site at 3 p.m. That’s a full two hours before you doofuses go on the air for your afternoon broadcasts.

You’re rarely the first to tell me anything in this day and age of 24-hour cable channels and web sites updated around the clock. WLOS can’t even put full stories on its web site, because they’re not real stories. And forget about trying to find updated news on the television news station’s web site. There is none.

Stop telling me you’re the first to tell me something. Once again, you’re lying, plain and simple.

So because you didn’t watch the noon news that day, I’m the one that’s full of shite? Better check your “From the (sic) everything I’ve checked” sources (which didn’t include the TV station you love to hate) a little more closely, next time.

You’ll have to prove to me that WLOS had anything resembling a story at noon. From the everything I’ve checked, Polk police didn’t even receive the 911 call until about 12:30 p.m. They get on scene, cordone off the area, and wait out the standoff until deciding to go in about 3 p.m.
WLOS goes from noon to 1. I doubt they had shit.
Dave, you’re full of shit.

Which means the “doofuses” reported it a full two hours before the Hooterville paper, which makes the person who posted a blog with incorrect information the real doofus. I’m sure it’ll be followed by more insightful commentary about couch potatoes defending them and something along the lines of “well, they’ve been wrong before and they’ve overhyped things before, so it doesn’t matter if I was wrong this time — they’re still guilty.” Smells an awful lot like a duplicitous pot-vs.-kettle thing.

actually, the shooting story was covered in their noon news. Fox was the one at 10pm who said “you’ll only here it here on Fox” and they re-told the story that was on WLOS at noon.

You’re a moron. As per usual. “We first told you” means that is when WE first told you. It reminds viewers this is not the first time we’ve reported on a story. It does not mean we “broke” the story. Then we would really go nuts saying “we reported this before anyone else”… like the Waynesville Church political controversey. Now measure the thickness of your skull:) Go back to reporting on air guitar…
