The Ashvegas burlesque crew The Rebelles will take it off for the last time Oct. 26 and 27 for their Halloween show at the Grey Eagle. After that, they’re done.
That’s the big news Citizen-Times entertainment editor Tony Kiss tucked into a short story in the Take5 street edition out today. The group has been wildly popular since its curvacious members started teasing and stripping some four years ago. They threw in a few jokes and some political satire and blew up. Their shows have routinely been sell-outs.
But the gig is up, according to founder Christine DiBenedetto, who Kiss quotes. Here’s what he reports:
The group is bowing out while still having fun, DiBenedetto said. Producing and staging elaborate productions requires an enormous amount of work, she added, and all the cast members have increasinly busy lives.
We’re sad to see this group go by the wayside. They’re uniquely Ashvegas, and who doesn’t like to have their imagination tweaked with a sexy fan dance? We’ll miss the Rebelles.

I only got to see the Rebelles through Ash’s blog but I’m sad to hear this little bit of live theater is going away.
I keep putting off seeing one of their shows. I won’t miss this one.
Thanks for always giving us the love on your blog! It wasn’t an easy decision to make but with full time jobs, starting new businesses, graduating college students, new baby "belles" on the way, relocating (moving to WV myself), and a host of other commitments we just had to lay down the hand for now.
Here’s hoping that others will come together to fill that void here in Asheville.
Support local theater!
