Fire at Buckstove
A fire damaged the Buckstove stove manufacturing plant out in Spruce Pine early Friday morning. Kassandra “Special K” Pride showed us some employees cleaning up debris, but offered us practically no detail. There was no cause of the fire given, not even a suspicion. Nothing on if any firefighters were injured in fighting the blaze. Nothing on the estimated cost of the damage. O, anchor Terrie Foster gave us one tidbit – the company makes about 1,000 stoves a week. And Special K did say the company has 90 employees who will get back to the clean up on Monday. She also said investigators had ruled out arson.

After the local fire story, WLOSers immediately went into one of their classic themed roundups, ticking off absolutely meaningless information about an aluminum plant fire in Indiana and a warehouse fire in Bristol. Good video, though.

Black Friday
Cherub Charu stayed on the shopping beat and told us that people went shopping on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. Retailers often start making their money starting on “Black Friday,” and they have lots of sales and stuff. Charu talked to shoppers who were up at 3 a.m. to buy light bulbs and vaccuums. God help us.

Back at the anchor desk…
Terrie held down the anchor duties alone, but girl needs to try a little bronzer. Something. Anything. She looks translucent. Medic! Blood transfusion!

Biltmore booming
Visitors also swarmed the Biltmore House on Friday. The estate had 8,800 visitors, according to WLOSers, who waited 3.5 hours to get in the front door of the magnificient mansion.

Aluminum Christmas tree museum open
WLOSers went down to Brevard to show us annual video from the Aluminum Christmas tree museum, a fun little collectin of Atomic Age trees from yestyear. The museum has 60 trees. We want one!

In other news…
Gov. Mike Easley announced some tourism grants for mountain counties… People started putting lights up on their houses, WLOSers said. Make sure your ladder is sturdy and – here’s an idea – have somebody hold it, WLOSers said… And the Salvation Army kicked off its red kettle campaign in Hendersonville.

I think they do have some kind of make-up consultant who comes in once a year or something, but certainly no one on staff. My guess is we’ll recognize when she/he has been in because everyone will have rosy cheeks for a day or two, before returning to normal — just like you can tell the "talent" coach has been in whenever you see the Diva madly gesticulating on every word and being really facially expressive (you’ll also notice the camera shots moving wildly, as the studio guys try to keep up with her temporary devotion to non-verbal emphasis).

WLOS hooks anchors up with clothes and make-up, right? Some kind of allowance? Makes sense they’d offer some make-up help…

A makeup person on staff??? What kind of money do you think Sinclair is throwing at this operation?

Terrie did not look well. I’ve noticed Wundergirl looking a bit pasty lately, too. I know those bright studio lights are hell but you would think the WLOSers would have a competent makeup person on staff.
