Press release here:

The Cheeksters will celebrate the release of their fine new record, “The Golden Birds,” with a show at The Lab in downtown Asheville, North Carolina on Saturday, May 7th, 2011 beginning at 9:00pm. Special guest, The Albatross Party will open the show.

It was the summer of 1989 when Mark and Shannon Casson met by chance on a train in London, England. The following year they started playing music together as The Cheeksters.

Fast forward twenty years and The Cheeksters are set to release their sixth full length recording “The Golden Birds.” The new record continues the band’s exploration of, and fascination with, all things pop, mod and soulful.

The songs, all written by Mark, capture the sunny sounds of late ’60’s Pop and early ’70’s Glam as well the darker edges of classic soul and funk. Think Bowie meets The Beatles with a dash of Curtis Mayfield thrown in for good measure.

In keeping with their last four releases “The Golden Birds” was recorded on analogue tape at Cream Puff Studios in Nashville, Tennessee.

Tickets for the record release show are $10 which includes a CD of the new release, or $5 without. More information can be found at the following websites, Cheeksters.com, Rozinantemusic.com/thecheeksters, and Lexavebrew.com.
