More of what’s rattling around:
– Asheville Disclaimer Radio: Click here to listen. It’s funny stuff.
– Campaign cash: A local blogger’s look at the impact of campaign cash on Asheville City Council elections.
– Taking on DSS: One local woman is taking on Buncombe County DSS in court, and she explains it all on her website, http://parentsagainstmedicalabuse.com/.
– Car break-ins: One of my street sources tells me there have been more than a dozen car break-ins in downtown Asheville parking decks in recent weeks. Often, all the thieves have to do is open a door. Here’s a tip: lock your doors, and put any and all valuables in the trunk or glove box, out of view.
– Mountain comic-con: Who knew the mountains had its own geeked-out comic convention? The High Country Comic Con is set for Oct. 10.
– Fund-raising fatigue: It’s just the beginning of fall, and I’m already worn-out from all the fundraising balls and galas that nonprofits are holding around town. I know it’s important for the individual organizations — the events are often their biggest money-makers of the year. But all that socializing can be draining, and expensive. So far, Mountain BizWorks and the YWCA have held their events. Next up this week is the Health Adventure’s big party.
– Tiger in town: Tiger Woods was in town on Saturday to check out his golf course, which is under construction out in Swannanoa/Fairview. Tiger, how about inviting a blogger along next time?
– Politicking: Hundreds of big-shot Democrats are in Asheville this weekend for the North Carolina Democratic Party’s fund-raising event known as Vance-Aycock (two former governors). I didn’t hear much buzz out of this event as in years past. Especially last year, when then candidate Barack Obama swung through for a visit. Here’s a photo I shot. Hard to believe that was just a year ago.

Speaking of comic conventions, Asheville is getting its own in May: http://fanaticon.org/ Hooray!
Here’s a little tidbit that you failed to mention about one of the fine governors which the Dems like to honor by co-naming their fund-raising diner after: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Brantley_Aycock — yea, he was a white supremacist!
