The Ashvegas Hot Sheet: Photos of first house in Tiger Woods’ neighborhood; Photos of Tupelo Honey South; Asheville Tea Party debate video; Mountain Xpress change; and more

Just some of what’s going around:

Photos of first house in The Cliffs at High Carolina: Check out this link to WCNC’s photos of the first house in Tiger Woods’ new neighborhood out in Swannanoa/Fairview.

Tupelo Honey South pix: Peak Definition has some sweet photos of the inside of the new Tupelo Honey South, which just held its grand opening event on Monday. Check ’em.

Congressional debate video: The Asheville Tea Party political action committee blog will provide live web video of the Asheville Tea Party’s congressional debate, which is set for Friday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m.

Larry Linney’s back: Lots of folks around Asheville will remember attorney Larry Linney, a character who won election to the N.C. House in the Republican sweep of 1994. Linney, a former Duke basketball player, gained notoriety when he failed to show up to represent a client in federal court before Judge Lacy Thornburg. Linney said his duty as a representative in Raleigh was more pressing, but Thornburg issued a bench warrant and had Linney arrested and brought back to Asheville. Linney was later convicted of embezzling from the estate of a client.

Guess what? Linney now lives in Charlotte, and he’s decided to run for public office again. He’ll be challenging U.S. Sen. Richard Burr. John Boyle has the story at the Asheville Citizen-Times.

More politics: The Hendersonville Times-NewsJames Shea has the first published interview with the Democrat challenging U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler. The challenger is Aixa Wilson

Merry-go-round on The Block: The Asheville Citizen-Times has a big story about a new pact signed by major players on The Block — Asheville’s historic African-American business district — that promises some big new development. Problem is that folks have been promising big new development on The Block for more than two decades, and absolutely nothing has happened. The same developer named in the latest project was the developer named in a “big new development plan” I wrote about in 2008.

Mountain Xpress moves: Mountain Xpress Managing Editor Jon Elliston noted on Local Edge Radio Tuesday night that the newspaper is experimenting with Tuesday night delivery of the alt weekly to downtown Asheville outlets. The newspaper has been distributed on Wednesdays.

Elliston also has an interesting piece in this week’s edition about major changes to the Xpress food section. Former food section writer Mackensy Lunsford returns to Xpress, replacing Hannah Raskin, who has worked as food editor the past three years. Lunsford will oversee a major new collaborative effort with local foodies, food bloggers and Twitter-ers, explains Elliston.

We’ve forged a new food-journalism initiative that, we believe, will become a gastronomic engine for Western North Carolina’s already thriving food-and-beverage scene.

We’re doing it with bellies full of input from area foodies, and we’re asking every person who reads this and has a passion for eating and drinking locally to chime in and help us make WNC even more of a premium place to get your grub on.

The initiative will focus the power of citizen journalism, collaborative reporting and social media on the area’s culinary culture.

Is the Michelle Boudin who filed the story about The Cliffs at High Carolina the same Michelle Boudin who used to be at WLOS?
