The Ashvegas hot sheet: More on Bele Chere, Twitter and I need your vote

Here’s some of what’s going around:

– Play about Thomas Wolfe debuts: The Raleigh News & Observer has this update. I’m hoping to interview Young. From the N&O: “Chapel Hill writer Perry Deane Young and cohort William Gregg have written a play about Thomas Wolfe that will be premiered this week at Mars Hill College. “Home Again” is the story of what happened when Wolfe returned to Asheville. Young, the author of 10 books, will soon see his Vietnam memoir, “Two of the Missing,” reissued, and a film version is to begin later this year.”

– Dueling Asheville City Council candidates: Saturday afternoon, candidate Gordon Smith held a meet-and-greet on the second floor of the Capital building on Patton Avenue in downtown. I stopped by to say hello and snap some Bele Chere photos from the second-floor balcony.

About an hour into the event, Chuck and Karen Tessier appeared on the third-floor balcony just above. They had a banner, which they unfurled, that touted Kelly4Council. That would be Kelly Miller, who is on council and running for election (he was appointed to the seat).

I’m not sure how everything was resolved, but I didn’t see the Miller banner hanging later in the afternoon.

– Best of WNC: The annual Best of WNC voting is underway over at Mountain Xpress. I need your help. Please vote for Ashvegas for best blog. Thanks, once again, to everyone who reads, reacts and interacts with me at this blog, and to everyone who has offered a financial donation to keep me going here. I’m honored.

– The Twitter revolution: More and more, I’m picking up news tips on Twitter. It’s incredible. I can barely keep up. But I’m trying. Follow Ashvegas on Twitter here.
