Let’s take a quick look at the local election landscape here in Asheville as we hit one month until Election Day. These are not my official predictions. Just my musings. What do you think?
For Buncombe County commissioner, everyone’s telling me that it will be Holly Jones, K. Ray Bailey, Carol Peterson and Bill Stanley for commissioner. All Democrats. There’s not a single Republican making in-roads here locally, from what I hear.
For chairman of the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners, I have been hearing a lot about how much Nathan Ramsey is spending, and how hard he’s campaigning. My early sense was that he would win in a race that would be close. But if Barack Obama has put North Carolina in play, there are some who think his coattails might pull David Gantt to victory. It’s going to be a damn close race, but the winds favor Gantt at this point.
For state House, I don’t see any major upsets on the horizon. And that’s it for big local races. For senate, I think you’ll see Democrat Kay Hagan upset Eliabeth Dole. For governor, it’s looking like Republican Pat McCrory will beat out Beverly Perdue. But that’s all just guessing right now.
We’ve still got a month to go.
