Summer job opportunities and opportunities for community service volunteer positions will be the focus of the 2011 Summer Camp Fair and Community Service Fair, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at UNC Asheville’s Highsmith University Union. These companion events are free and open to all members of the community as well as UNC Asheville students.
Many summer employers, including YMCA camps, Camp Merrie-Woode, Camp Ton-A-Wandah, Nantahala Outdoor Center, SOAR, Inc., Camp Chipinaw, Mars Hill College Upward Bound, Falling Creek Camp, Rockbrook Camp for Girls, Camp Tekoa, Camp Spearhead, Coastal Kayak Touring Company and Girl Scouts Peaks to Piedmont, have registered to participate in the 2011 Summer Camp Fair. UNC Asheville’s Key Center for Community Citizenship and Service Learning and the university’s Office of Special Programs have created the Community Service Fair to help students and members of the community find meaningful volunteer opportunities with area service organizations. RiverLink, Asheville City Schools Foundation, ABCCM (Asheville Buncombe County Christian Ministry), American Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Buncombe County Parks, Mission Hospital, Girl Scouts, Children First Project MARCH, Big Brothers Big Sisters of WNC are among those participating.
