The Beer Guy notes that there’s still plenty of bitterness over Asheville’s recent win in the Beer City USA online poll. Tony Kiss notes that it’s folks in San Diego that are whining now.
First it was Portland, Ore., engaging in some untoward online banter about Asheville after falling short in the Beer City poll, an unscientific online survey conducted by noted brew authority Charlie Papazian, founder of the Great American Beer Festival.
Now the San Diego Union Tribune’s website, Sign On San Diego, has piled on. In a piece called “Portland wuz robbed; San Diego wuz robbed and mugged,” it expressed amazement that that Asheville topped the poll. San Diego finished a distant third.
The column described the Beer City poll “of dubious worth,” and then there was a slam at Asheville, which “only” hosts five annual beer festivals, a mere drop in the bucket compared with San Diego, which has five in the month of June alone. How “dubious” would it have been had San Diego won?

Thank god im not the only person who is sick of hearing this Online poll is about dumb as dog crap. Its just ONE POLL from ONE Nobody and it was unscientific poll at that.

I have to agree that this Beer City USA stuff is totally bogus and has no real meaning or merit, but it does give that lame writer Tony Kiss something to write about. I’m not sure any of this is newsworthy. It’s just PR hype.
Comparing little ole Asheville, NC to Portland, Oregon is also ridiculous. Portland is a major metropolitan city, far bigger than Asheville will ever be.

The "Beer City USA" ranking is the result of a non-scientific, totally bogus, online poll. It’s a scam and has no real meaning.
Yes, some of the local brews here are good, but this is certainly nothing to get all worked up over. I’m getting tired of the hype.
