The Steep Canyon Rangers, performing with Steve Martin, rocked their Mountain Song Festival in Brevard last weekend. Loyal Ashvegas reader White Lightnin‘ reports that the band played several new tunes, which will be included on a new album they’re recording right now in Asheville. The new record is due out in February.
Lightnin’ said one song, written by Martin, was an instrumental called “Rare Bird Alert.” Martin said he wrote it while filming a movie with Owen Wilson and Jack Black about competitive bird watching. (That movie is The Big Year, due out next year also.)
