Raleigh newspaper has the story here:
DURHAM — Sarah P. Duke Gardens was named one of the top 10 public gardens in “Southern Living” magazine’s Readers’ Choice Awards.
Asheville’s Biltmore Gardens was also included on the list, which appears in the January issue.

Most definitely not "public"!!
These surveys by SOUTHERN LIVING magazine mean nothing at all since they are largely based on an advertising relationship with the magazine. Biltmore is a big advertiser in SL, so they definitely have to include them.
What a joke this award is.
So a public garden is one you have to pay to get into? Not by my definition.
