Sound the snow sirens! First big snow storm of the winter predicted to hit WNC on Friday

Share

Alright, folks. It’s time to sound the snow sirens. Batten down the hatches. It looks like we’ve got our first big snow storm of the year predicted to hit Western North Carolina on Friday.

Ray’s Weather says we could about 4 inches around Asheville, maybe more in higher elevations. It will start out as cold rain and sleet, then changeover into snow as the day moves on.

So let’s watch how this all goes down. First off, when will area schools start announcing that they’re closing tomorrow? I’m guessing that by 8 p.m. tonight, every big school system in Buncombe County will have announced that there’s no school tomorrow.

Next, when will people start rushing to Ingles to buy up the bread and milk? I’m thinking that lunch time is going to be crazytown with people running errands. The 5 o’clock rush hour is going to be nuts, too, and will be a mad dash to the nearest grocery. I predict that by 10 p.m. tonight, WLOS will be showing us some video of bare store shelves.

What other events might be impacted by a big snow storm Friday and Saturday? Both days are crucial shopping days as we near Christmas, so local merchants probably won’t be too happy to see people hunkered down at home.

Will the Seasonal Sizzle fireworks still go off over downtown? Could we have fireworks over a snow scene in Asheville? That would be awesome.

What else?

I went to the "crack" Ingles across the street, SaveMore or something another. No drama, everything necessary.

You can get whole pigs there too.

I think a comment on the CT site pretty much summed up the hole WLOS / INGLES madness when wintry weather is forecast:
SNOGASM!
