Some of what’s new around Asheville: Sneak Preview Shoes opens downtown along with Curio; more

A quick round-up of what’s happening around the way:

Sneak Preview Shoes, a cool new shoe shop, has opened at the corner of Walnut and Lexington. The shop has a feel like it’s going for a skate shop vibe with its hip shoes, T-shirts and awesome original art. But it’s really more than that, according to owner Josh, who I chatted with recently. Josh, an entrepreneur from New York who has lived all over, including Boulder and out on the Left Coast, said he’s going for kind of an art gallery for shoes, and he says he’s going to work hard to draw in the community. The artwork is by a friend of Josh’s who we’ll be hearing more about on the music scene.

Wedge Brewing has a big new concrete patio and wheelchair friendly walkway.

Curio, a shop full of games and knick-knacks for kids, has opened in the Miles Building on Battery Park Ave. Looks like the store is owned by the same folks who own Union around the corner.

Urban Dharma, “a new Buddhist community,” is opening a space at 29 Page Avenue in downtown. The center aims to foster a deeper understanding of the teachings of the Buddha. There will be space for meditation, a shrine and for community events.

Bari Salon has finally opened after months of construction-related delays. The new salon is located in east-West Asheville and looks great.

Crissa Requate has gone off on her own to start Mason Jar Media, a company repping musicians. Lots of folks knew her from her work with Music Allies. More: “Crissa has been working with Music Allies for the last few years and has now ventured out on her own. She’s a great publicist and some of her clients include Ben Sollee, The Hangout Festival, Infamous Stringdusters, The Big Festy and Secret Agent 23 Skidoo. She’s a great addition to the studio, and we’re already collaborating on some projects together.
