Back in 2006, the Whiskey Tavern opened in the space to rave reviews, and owners filled the place up. Old exposed brick and big windows preserved the industrial feel of the days when the place was the MiniCo Dry Cleaners. When Whiskey Tavern opened, it brought back to life a spot that housed the Bar Code and then the Asheville Music Zone. Both those places couldn’t survive.
The sale of the 81 Broadway comes as the real estate market for downtown property continues to pick up steam. A group of Florida investors recently purchased the Bank of America building at 68 Patton Ave. for $3.2 million, according to property records. MRK Investments already owns the old Windsor Hotel building on Broadway, as well as the iconic S&W building on Patton Avenue near the Bank of America building.

Actually, the top floor will be occupied by RISC Networks (at least for the next 3 years). RISC Networks is a growing SaaS company based here in asheville that is looking to continue to hire local technology and sales talent and grow its nationwide customer base.

So will Olive Or Twist leave or what? That spot will never be a hotel. Ever. It’s a restaurant.
If someone buys the property, it would be theirs to do with as they please – if that meant tearing the building down and building a new structure…
