This is probably a 6-foot-long black snake making its way up a tree out in Macon County last weekend, on the hunt for a egg snack. Thanks to loyal reader Jason for sharing this.

Beautiful photo!!!!!
Black snakes are not poisonous…live and let live!
I have two living under my porch and they are better mousers than all my cats!
We’re blessed to have them!
Try to not hit them with your cars or mowers, okeh?
They truly are our Allies , not our enemies to be feared!
PS – And I’m a girl! So if I can get along with snakes, YOU CAN TOO!
What the heck is up with the black snakes this past weekend? My best friend spotted one in Webster (near Sylva) in to road by the river, I ran up on one in Cherokee, and now this one?
I am scared to go outside!
what!! i didn’t know snakes could do that!!
::stares in awe… and fear::
That did it. I will NOT be stepping foot outside again until the winter freeze and may not even venture onto my deck!
oh great! now i have something else to fear in the great outdoors!
