SlutWalk Asheville planned for Friday; aim is to protest sexual assault

Share

Here’s the announcement for SlutWalk Asheville, listed in the Mountain Xpress events calendar:

FR (4/22), 4-6pm – Meet in downtown Asheville to reclaim positive sexual thinking at the “Slut Walk.” It doesn’t matter how short your skirt is, how low cut your top, how tight your pants or how lovely your lumps, nobody deserves sexual assault.

The gathering will start at the Vance Monument. More than 400 people are signed up on the Facebook page for SlutWalk Asheville. From the page:

Inspired by our Canadian neighbors to the north, we want to walk against unwanted attention and labeling based on our attire and others perceptions of us regardless of sex or gender.

From SlutWalk Toronto: …

So meet us downtown to reclaim positive sexual thinking. It doesn’t matter how short your skirt is or how low cut your top, how tight your pants or how lovely your lumps nobody DESERVES sexual assault.

Because the idea of “slut” is so subjective, we’re asking you just come as you are, however you are. Fishnets? Awesome. Overalls? Pretty cool. Slut can be an attitude or a wardrobe.

Anyone know any more about the organizers? Thanks to loyal reader grumpyoldlady for pointing me to this.

More Symbolism over Substance

All for the idea but against the execution. Only going to draw the redneck scumbags out to ogle the girls who dress like or have the attitude of "sluts". Damned Canadians!
