There’s a sign on the Silver Dollar that says simply “Closed: Due to Illness.” That just doesn’t sound good. I wonder if it’s closed for good. Meantime, the restaurant building is almost visible crumbling before our very eyes. I’ve never eaten there, and don’t plan to, but the place is a West Asheville landmark.

The food: cheap. The wait staff: nice enough. The other customers: leave you alone to eat.
What else do you need?
Other than that, here’s my other thoughts on the place:

I go by there at least once a month, and the service is as friendly as you’ll find. It’s a great place for third shift workers to be able to grab a tallboy after work with some eggs.
I hope they’re not gone for good.
First take out hambuger I ever had was from there. It had chili and onions on it. Probably was 1963. Does anyone know when it opened?
It’s the only place in town that has brains on the menu. Not that I’d ever eat brains, but still… been there once a couple of years ago. Not bad. I’m surprised they stuck around as long as they have…
The only remnant of that area’s blue-collar history is probably the Burger Bar. I hope they don’t close that place anytime soon…
