Show some love for the animals at the WNC Nature Center

Press release on what’s new at the WNC Nature Center:

Show your love for animals this Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14th, at 2 p.m. as we welcome our raccoons, gray fox and red fox into their new habitats. This long awaited and highly anticipated opening comes after a lot of hard work and dedication by all of the Nature Center staff; the City of Asheville Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts staff; and so many volunteers who helped on Workday Wednesdays. We want to thank all who donated and participated in making this critical renovation a success.

Most of us have seen the small habitats in which the raccoons, gray and red foxes have previously been residing. While they are always cared for with special attention and love, staff at the Nature Center have long recognized the need to create habitats that better resemble the animals’ natural environments and also align with the Nature Center’s philosophy of better showcasing native fauna and flora.

The attention and detail in creating these new natural exhibits is evident as logs, rhododendrons, native grasses and water features dominate. We are certain the raccoons, gray and red foxes will transition easily and happily, and we hope you join us in welcoming them into their new homes. Refreshments will be served. Regular admission rates of $7 for adults and $3 for children apply and include all day admission. City of Asheville residents receive $2 discount on adult admission and seniors receive $1 discount on adult admission.
