Shelco, Inc., General Contractors (Greenville Office) has been selected by The University of North Carolina Asheville (UNCA) to build its $31 million, multi building North Carolina Center for Health Promotions & Partnerships project. The project’s highlight building is the 4,000 seat Kimmel Arena. The balance of the new buildings will provide new space for classrooms, research and teaching labs; cardiovascular and strength training rooms; offices, meeting rooms and seminar space; studios for dance, aerobics, yoga and other physical activity courses; a wellness café and teaching kitchen; and incubator space for wellness-related community enterprises. A new parking deck will be provided as well.

The project will likely obtain a high level LEED Certification with sustainable design features including a heat recovery wheel to reduce heating and cooling costs, low-energy lighting fixtures with occupancy sensors, rainwater cistern to supply a future irrigation system for athletic fields, no-touch restroom faucets to reduce water usage, and drought-tolerant, indigenous landscaping.

Shelco, Inc. is a 30- year-old $350 million General Contractor headquartered in Charlotte with regional offices in Raleigh and Winston-Salem, NC and Greenville, SC. Shelco has been providing services out of the Greenville office for 12 years.
