Second logo

Ok, loyal readers – what say you of this logo, above.

Just to pimp ’em again, it was my peeps at Halcyon Printing, a kick-ass Ashvegas printing operation, that hooked me up. To be specific, my man Shannon, who is great to work with. If y’all need T-shirt printing or design work, check these guys out.

Referencing Vegas in the nickname for our humble town just begs for a Vegas treatment. Lightbulbs, especially. That’s why the first logo was so perfect. It incorporated the Vegas part with local icons. And yes, folks just don’t like change.

What Arratik says is true — at home on my small-medium monitor, using Firefox, I get a gigantic screen-eating header and have to scroll down for content.

Put me in the old-school camp — I liked the old header, which was just a lot more…Asheville.

That said, nobody reads this blog for the header.

Weather Watcher February 20, 2008 - 1:09 pm

I guess I’m from the "old school"…the original is still my favorite!

i am in the camp that likes the first new version better. This one looks like it ought to be called Smashe-Vegas. Just too cluttery, but not in the cool way your original one was.

It is true what they say-
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The original was perfect because it captured so many of the wonderful local elements that make Asheville Ashevegas! (I especially loved the banjo picker from the urban trail.)

Sometimes change is good, sometimes it’s just change.

What Arratik said.

I gotta vote for the original.
It’s kinda like messing with Classic Coke. If it aint broke, it dont need fixin.

That said, I like the current one better than the 2nd one. I think the Asheville Building against the green mtns is effective. The text is not.
The spotted lettering clashes with the overall motif.
Possibly a bolder text a bit smaller would do it.

Well….you asked.

Ash, we all know you have been through big changes in your life lately, but why are you messing with the logo? I don’t claim to be a graphic artist, but I admit I really, kinda, sort of liked the original. Just saying….

Edgy February 20, 2008 - 1:07 am

People don’t like change, do they?

Dagny February 20, 2008 - 12:52 am

Everything is better than the latest…I do agree with the Aladdin comment, but it connects "Ash&Vegas"!

Was there some reason you needed to change from the original photographic montage of fall foliage mountains, city and Vegas sign that I missed? Neither of these last two come close in quality or visual appeal. I’d suggest going back to at least a photo quality image base.

That new logo is ninja-tastic!

Let’s go kung fun fightin’, brudda!

This one is better than the other ‘new’ one, but not quite up to par with the original. Keep em coming.

catnap February 19, 2008 - 8:39 pm

I like them both, but I like this one better. shouldn’t it be one word though?

A to the P February 19, 2008 - 8:17 pm

It needs little yellow lightbulbs going around the outside of the circle containing all the asheville buildings.

a border of yellow dots around that, like you would see around the edge of signs on the vegas strip, and it would be pretty perfect.

firelady February 19, 2008 - 8:09 pm

ummmm, kind of 1950’s anywhere chinatown logo?

Abra Cat February 19, 2008 - 5:54 pm

Wowsers– love!

funkymono (aka Jeremy) February 19, 2008 - 5:43 pm

I like the previous Halcyon one better.

Becky February 19, 2008 - 5:33 pm

Aw, I’m boring. I liked the old one!

Dad February 19, 2008 - 3:25 pm

I like it a lot!

arratik February 19, 2008 - 3:05 pm

My only complaint, is that your header is way too big – almost 500 pixels high. On my display, that’s almost the entire browser window. From a design perspective, I’ve always felt that since the readers are coming for content, they should be able to start reading the content as soon as they hit the page without having to start scrolling down immediately. The reader shouldn’t think "Wow, that header graphic really pops! But where’s the content?"

But having said that, I do like this graphic, but I think I like the one you had up a few days ago better.

That’s just my 2.15417 Japanese yen. Your mileage my vary.

Melissa February 19, 2008 - 2:09 pm

It’s cool…but perhpas a tad too "Aladdin." The first one was right on, though.
