Looks like everybody is jumping in on the Kwame Kilpatrick story, and its connections to Asheville. Detroit TV station WXYZ is, by far, having the most fun with story. Check out a YouTube video it posted, plus a whole list of stories and reaction.
Here’s more of what we’ve seen today:
From the New York Times story:
Sam Riddle, former political consultant for Kwame: “This technosexual tragedy has engulfed the city in a way I haven’t seen in 30 years of doing political consulting,” said Mr. Riddle, who helped with Mr. Kilpatrick’s re-election campaign. “I don’t think Detroit is going to be sweet-talked.”
Predictably, there is outrage all over Detroit and calls for the mayor’s head. “He’s an embarrassment and now it’s proven he’s a habitual liar,” city union boss John Riehl, told NEWSWEEK. Riehl, who represents 900 Detroit workers in the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, is having them picket city hall on Wednesday to demand that Kilpatrick resign. “He’s put Detroit’s national image in the gutter.”
From Crain’s Detroit Business:
I guess we have to hunker down and start to figure out what’s going to happen to our city and what we’re supposed to do now. But right now I don’t have the stomach for it. Right now, we’re all still just a little bit too shocked. I feel like I’ve lost a friend. Sure, I’ll still like Kwame Kilpatrick. He’s a nice guy with a great wife and some terrific kids. But whether I want to admit it or not, I’m stunned. And I’m sad.
Tonight at 6 p.m., WLOSers were silent. No story. Not even a mention.
