Description:

The Russian National Ballet Theatre was founded in Moscow during the transitional period of Perestroika in the late 1980s. The company was founded by and incorporated graduates from the storied Russian choreographic schools of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Perm, and the principal dancers of the company came from the upper ranks of the great ballet companies and academies of Russia, as well as the companies of Riga, Kiev and even Warsaw.

In 1994, the legendary Bolshoi principal dancer Elena Radchenko was selected by Presidential decree to assume the first permanent artistic directorship of the company. As the founder of the Russian National Ballet Theatre, she has focused the Company on upholding the grand national tradition of the major Russian ballet works, and on developing new talents throughout Russia. Now, twenty years after their formation, the company is considered one of the elite touring ballets of the world.

On February 21, the area’s oldest arts not-for-profit, Asheville Bravo Concerts, will present The Russian National Ballet Theatre’s acclaimed production of Cinderella, with a corp of over 50 dancers. This retelling of the classic story features a score by Prokofiev, and is sure to be entertaining and enjoyable for everyone from the very young to the young at heart.

In addition to this performance, Bravo includes a complimentary thirty-minute educational lecture regarding the performance one hour prior to the show. This lecture will be led by the Director of the Asheville Ballet, Ann Dunn, and will take place in the Banquet Hall of the Civic Center.
