Rumor control: Whole Foods in the process of buying Greenlife store in Asheville; store meeting tonight

Share

Rumors and speculation have been swirling for more than a year about whether or not Whole Foods would move into the Asheville market. Now it seems that there may be some action. Here’s a note I received from an anonymous commenter. I don’t have any confirmation. Can anyone confirm? Offer more information?

Hey Jason,

Appreciate all the great info and writing you share on ashvegas….don’t know if you’ve heard, but Whole Foods is in the process of buying out Greenlife (both here and the Chatanooga location).  The store was abuzz with conversation today among us employees, but we don’t know anything beyond that about the transition and won’t know until a storewide meeting Thursday night.  I figure it will be a most interesting switch for everyone involved.  Anyway, that’s the gossip from natural foods land.

Thanks,

Future Cog in the Wheel

I’ve been hearing rumors surrounding Whole Foods for at least 5+ years now. A few years before the VW dealership moved I heard a rumor about their relocation to Brevard Rd. (actually turned out to be Sardis Rd….pretty close) and Whole Foods moving in to that property on Merrimon. I was pretty certain they were going to do this as the source of the rumor was reliable (.500 ain’t bad). I guess they backed out due to economic factors but now they are back in since the economic outlook has improved a little.

not any confirmation, but I also heard the same thing from a Greenlife employee. Curious to see how the local population will react to this.
