Ashvegas is receiving reports that Jack Cecil may be quite sick, but I don’t have any confirmation. Can anybody clarify?
John “Jack” F.A.V. Cecil is president of Biltmore Farms Inc. The company is a major developer, having built hotels, apartment complexes and upscale homes. Biltmore Park, Biltmore Lake and The Ramble are three examples.
Jack Cecil joined his father in managing Biltmore Dairy in 1984 before moving into the development of hotels and communities. He has been a major player on the business and civic scene in Asheville for a long, long time.

Was curious about this, so checking back in.
To "watchdog" — it is clear that you are not familiar with the law. For one thing, it’s not HIPPA, it’s HIPAA. And it applies primarily to healthcare workers, so unless someone answers this thread who has access to Mr. Cecil’s medical information, it is not a violation of the Federal law.
Whether it is ethical is another thing, though as someone else mentioned, he is a public figure so from that standpoint he is in the limelight. That still doesn’t make it okay to discuss private matters but in our society it is not against the law to do so and, in most case, is expected.
Cecil is apparently on the mend. Good news!
Watchdog, you do that. I need the clicks.
Personal health information is protected by federal law commonly know as HIPPA. I will forward a link to your site to them. Watch out what you ask for….
Sorry to hear this if it is true, but the Cecil family are prominent and very public business people in Western NC. The post is titled rumor control, and I see no problem with this at all.
I usually champion your digging into the stuff that nobody is reporting . . but this seems an invasion of someone’s privacy that has no genuine news value. You questioned the Citizen-Times reporting on aspects of the previous life of the owner of the Richmond Hill Inn that you said had no bearing on the recent fire. Why report a rumor about the health of a private citizen – albeit an influential one – who is not involved at present in any news story?
Even your use of the word "rumor" throws a questionable light on this. You must hear all kinds of rumors in your professional life. Don’t you verify them before you publish them?
