In my column for the print edition of the Asheville Citizen-Times today, I write about the Whole Foods buyout of Greenlife Grocery, quoting management as saying customers won’t see much change. I’ve been hearing from some folks in the community that the employee perspective may be different.
Rumors are that Greenlife employees will have to re-apply for their jobs to stay employed at Whole Foods. There are also various stories about whether people who get laid off, or not re-hired, will receive severance pay.
Has anyone heard how employees are faring under the changeover?

I never understood the freak-out over the transition from Greenlife to Whole Foods. I was feeling that I was the only person that thought it would be better for everyone involved.
My wife and I consider Greenlife our neighborhood grocery store, shopping there a couple of times a week. I’ve talked with six or seven Greenlife staff members about the purchase of the store by Whole Foods, and they seem enthusiastic about the resulting benefits for them–health insurance, retirement fund, greater professional opportunities, among others.
And they probably will pay you more, give you the $1500 FSA card, full health insurance with premium paid for and a 20% discount, to name a few things….right?
Good to know, Misty. Thanks!
We didn’t have to re-apply, we had to basically be switched to whole foods paperwork for payroll. All of us here at Greenlife are accounted for. The Whole Food zombies didn’t eat us or lay us off. 🙂
