The Avett Brothers are promising a big announcement later this week. Word is the band will announce the creation of their own music festival, set here in North Carolina. The Avett Brothers hail from Concord, so the event might likely be centered around the Charlotte area.
But the band clearly loves Asheville. They recorded I and Love and You at Echo Mountain Studio, and are reportedly recording their next album there, too. For three years running, they’ve played their annual New Year’s Eve shows here in Asheville, as well. Asheville could be a great location for an Avetts festival.
Several bands have their own festivals. Wilco, our own Steep Canyon Rangers, many more. Anyway, can’t wait to hear what the announcement will be.

@fedup… your sentiments have already been addressed but thanks for taking time out of your day (which i realize i'm guilty of as well) to reiterate that you think the avett brothers are undeserving of so much attention. keep in mind, however, that most avett fans & i'm sure the avetts themselves truly just don't care that you think they're overpopular. in fact, they may go so far as to thank you for spreading the word about them, even if it's a negative word. you're still spreading their name. thanks!
ugh! what is the deal with this band? why does asheville embrace them so much? they aren't even from here! soooo over them… let's take mediocre to the highest level possible, yeah!
I find it funny when a band is no longer unknown, people around here really start to hate on them. Granted, some of you might've always hated them, but they are on the radio for a reason: there are a ton of people out there that actually like their music, myself included (except for that stupid kick drum heart song). This is shown by their sold-out concerts, and ginormous album sales.
It is also funny to me when the person hating on an ultra-successful band's music happens to be a musician themselves. They are popular and you are not, so their music MUST suck, and you are just being kept down by the Man. You can hear a lot of this 'round these parts.
i feel stupid even taking the time to post this, but every once in a while, i feel compelled just enough… anyways, i love the avett brothes, but i also think they have a good amount of material that i find lackluster. i tend to focus more on the stuff i do like, which lends to my tendency to tell people i'm a really big fan. so what? who cares? maybe a lot of really big avett brothers fans feel a similar way… i don't know, but does it matter? why does it bother some people when a band develops a really large, dedicated fan base? you don't have to be a hardcore fan to be a fan. you don't have to join in on conversations about the avett brothers or choose to quote their lyrics when in a conversation with friends or family… the avett brothers aren't making music for you to be disappointed in, or for you to be obsessed with, they're just making music and you can decide for yourself what to do with it.
The Avett Brothers love their middle-aged male groupies! lol, so true!!
I continue to be mystified as to what this band's appeal is. The only thing particularly remarkable about them is that they are so completely unremarkable. It isn't that their music is bad, it's just that it is just there. Yet they have the #1 album at WNCW for four years in a row and so many people seem to find everything they do compelling and exciting.
I guess the train has long since left the station, but I just don't get it.
A whole festival of watered down Pop Bluegrass/country . . .
Good news, westhaywood –
They're sick of you.
So sick of the Avett Brothers
Apparently they are headlining the NC Azalea Festival in Wilmington…not sure if this is what you are talking about or not:
