RiverLink is hosting the French Broad River Fins & Gills Classic fishing tournament on May 9. Click here for more. Below, find just some of the basics. Sounds like fun!

Rules and Regulations

The intent of this tournament is to promote overall good stewardsip of the French Broad River, promote fishing, as well as to benefit RiverLink’s efforts to highlight and preserve activity on local waterways.  Honesty and fair play are essential to the success and competition in any event and must be followed at all times.

1. REGISTRATION: All participants must preregistered with RiverLink in writing by Thursday May 7, 2009.  Late registration will be the day of the tournament at Asheville Outdoor Center.  Late registration will end at 9:00am. Each canoe/raft will have each passenger sign the appropriate liability and registration forms, watch a safety video, and get their tourney stamp.  ***The organizers of the event reserve the right to refuse entry of any person, group, or boat.***

2.  FORMAT:  This is a river tournament.  Every participant must pay a $10entry fee for adults and a $5 entry fee for children 12 and under.  Late registration will be $15 for adults and 10 for Children. (If you are renting a boat for the tournament, the rental fee is $20 for a canoe.Each boat will have a two angler maximum limit. 

2a. This is a rod and reel and/or fly fishing tournament only.  The tackle is unlimited, other than restrictions defined under state laws, and live bait may be used.  

2b. No motorized engines are permitted, electric or gas, for use with boats in this competition.

2c. After the tournament begins, two or more boats congregating (close enough to pass fish) will be disqualified at the weigh-in stations. The only exception is in the case of an emergency.  All participants are responsible for getting their fish to the zone weigh stations aboard their own boat.

3. TOURNAMENT START/STOP: The tournament will begin at 8:00 AM Saturday, May 9th 2009 and lines must be out or the water and participants checked in by 2:00 PM at the Asheville Outdoors Center.  The tournament committee reserves the right to amend the start and finish times of the tournament and will use good faith and judgment to ensure a successful and fair tournament for all participants.
