Press release here:
RiverFest 2011 kicks off on Saturday, August 13 at French Broad River Park with local beer, arts & crafts, disc golf, cornhole, kids’ activities, a raft race, and best of all, the beautiful French Broad River.
One of Riverfest’s best features is live music by the French Broad River. Headlining this year’s event is the Josh Philips Folk Festival, but local bands can get in on the act as well. A local battle-of-the-bands style contest, the RiverFest Rock-n-Roll Brawl, will showcase three local favorites as voted on by listeners of 98.1 The River. The crowd favorite wins $500 worth of gear from Musician’s Workshop and recording time with Whitewater Recording.
Local acts can qualify by submitting a CD of up to three songs played by the artist/band entering the contest. At least two of the three songs must be original songs. The recording must be presented on a CDR music CD (not a data disk) together with a hard copy release form, approximate 100-word biography and photo of the singer-songwriter. Voting by the public opens up on July 18. The top three vote-getters will be invited to perform a 30-45 minute set at Riverfest 2011 on Saturday, August 13 at a time designated by 98.1 The River between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Submissions to the contest will be accepted at two locations:
Musician’s Workshop
319 Merrimon Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801
98.1 the RIVER Studios
1190 Patton Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801
Visit www.981theriver.com for more information on submitting and voting.
In addition to a great musical lineup, RiverFest offers local beer from Craggie Brewing, food from Luella’s BBQ, Jason’s Deli, Blue Daisy Café and Brioso Fresh Pasta. Asheville favorite Ultimate Ice Cream providing cool dessert treats.
