As an Asheville native, I am terribly sad to hear of this. Richmond Hill was such a beautiful place with such a rich history. I still remember seeing it moved in the 1980s and remember thinking that it seemed so weathered and worn. I wondered if it could possibly be restored.
Then, sure enough, through dedication and hard work, by the late 1980s the house was back in grand style and ready to debut as an inn. I was fortunate enough to stay at the inn a few years back and will always look back fondly on that opportunity.
It is still so very sad to think that after all of the time, all of the history, all of the effort, now the inn is gone at the hand of an arsonist.
It is a very sad time for Asheville. Richmond Hill will be missed…
