From the respected Real Clear Politics:
Shuler had previously been recruited by Republicans to run in the neighboring 1st District of Tennessee, so unsurprisingly he has a conservative voting record for a Democrat. His 65 percent rating from ADA places him among the most conservative Democrats in the House. He broke from the Obama administration on the stimulus, TARP and the health care bill. Shuler’s one major vote for an administration initiative came with his vote for cap-and-trade, which his opponent, businessman Jeff Miller, will eagerly attempt to portray as a vote for a major tax increase. Shuler may well find himself in a very competitive race this fall.

Can't argue with ya there Jason (although I from here).
Jason, I think you might be wrong about all local Democrats being outlanders.
Liberal democrats can not and will not win the 11th district. If you want to be happy living in Asheville, a Blue Dog dem is all you're going to get. Pelosi values might prevail in the AVL city limits but not in WNC. True happiness (for those of you who hate hillbillies) is better found in a deep blue state, where most of you are from originally.
Bite my ass, jerk. I don't share your vote Dem at all cost philosophy, but you can be assured I'm not moron. I know MUCH more about the situation than you realize. Shuler needs a wake up call…I'm sick of his crap. Get pissed at the hillbillies and old folks that voted Shuler into office in the first place. Just because he has a D beside his name doesn't make him a Democrat..and he doesn't vote on ANYTHING we hold important anyway. His time is up.
E=Moron
No. F#% Shuler. I'll be voting for Mickey Mouse or Bart Simpson instead. Pelosi blew it when she gave him a pass and didn't force him to vote Yes on Health Care.
I don't understand why I keep hearing that this race is going to be competitive. For all the democrats who will be voting, Shuler is the only choice. And because Shuler is quite conservative, he'll garner some of the conservative voters. With Miller being quite conservative, it seems to reason he will only get the republican vote which will be some-what split between he and Shuler. So, to me, it appears that Shuler having all the democrat votes and some republican votes, Shuler wins easily. Or am I missing something here? Democrats aren't stupid enough to say that because Shuler is one of these blue-dog types, that they just aren't going to vote for either which would allow a true Republican to win. Are they? That's just nuts.
