Press release here, from Facebook:
The Asheville, NC, activist group, Just Us for All, has organized an event to focus the community on the problem of inequality in a public form.
This informative demonstration will expose inequality and its effects on the LGBTQ community. The event is expected to bring many demographics of the community together to advocate for human rights.
Just US For All sees Senate Bill 272 as an obvious opposition. The bill was introduced on February 24, 2008, by Sen. James Forrester (R-Gaston), Senate Bill 272, “Defense of Marriage”, would not only deny equal marriage rights, which are already denied lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender North Carolinians, but would also not allow any recognition of civil unions, domestic partnerships, or similar relationships in the state.
“Our goal isn’t to get people to understand why people are gay or to change the institution of marriage; it is to shed light on the fact that homosexuals are people too regardless of our sexual orientation, and we encourage all walks of life to partake in this event with an open mind and open attitude,” said Just Us For All co-founder Samantha Soper.
