Pissed off about new parking deck fees

Share

From loyal reader Amber:

Forgive me if you’ve discussed this on your blog and I have overlooked it, but do you know what’s up with the increase deck fees at the Rankin and Civic Center decks? $8 maximum, even after 7:00? Who can I hunt down and repeatedly slap in the face over this?

i always take the parking ticket on the street over parking in the deck and being harassed by the guy that sleeps in there.

Wow, that’s quite a jump. Too bad, that’s where I like to park my ride late nights and leave over night after having two too many at Scully’s or the BG. A buck later and a lift downtown to get my car is way cheaper than a DUI… but $8 might make the ride home worth the risk! I wonder if this will encourage any drunk driving for anyone else ?

Does that mean that soon it will actually be cheaper to just take the $10 parking ticket by parking all day next to an expired meter?

Yikes that is a huge jump; however, I agree with Free Parking, it is still cheap. Eight years ago in North Atlanta, one hour cost $4 (including any fraction of an hour). Sounds like another reason to ride the bus.

wait… so the $1 exit fee after 7pm doesn’t exist anymore? what about the first hour being free? so much for Asheville offering a reasonable alternative to the always-occupied metered spaces. i always use the deck to save frustration from trying to deal with street parking. gonna be a lot of P-O’ed locals and people who have to work downtown. oh yeah, those year-round parking passes? most are taken up by people who live out of state and use them when they come to town. there is a perpetual waiting list for year-round passes. i worked downtown for three years and was on the list… never got one.

Robin Cape told me about this in June, expecting it to hit the first of August. One more way the city is attempting to deal with extra expenses in a tough economic times.

Sounds like, $8 is the price of parking to look cool in Asheville.

What an idiot.

$8 a day is still the cheapest city parking in NC. $160 to park in a garage for the month when you are employed downtown. That is the cheapest deck parking in the state.

Sign if the times with everything going up on price. Still cheaper then a meter for all day parking.

What makes you think this is a story? If it is, why don’t YOU do some reporting on it so your readers have some facts and figures to facilitate understanding about the issues at Mission. That’s what good journalism is about. This limp-wristed blogging is bullshit if it cannot be backed up by something substantial. It would be a service to Asheville and to your readers to do so. IMHO..
