Periscope Magazine, a new online magazine for Asheville, announces launch

Share

From www.periscopemag.com:

As a quarterly publication, the online magazine strives to encompass the elements of a periscope on a submarine: the sophisticated yet timeworn tool that lies hidden while enabling limited sight. Every person on the planet maintains their own periscope daily, whether it means staying straight on course or veering off and exploring different angles. And as it stands, the happenings of the world, though factual, are purely based on the subjective inclinations of those experiencing those various parts of the world. Periscope defies the average aspiration of other publications not just by looking through our own periscopes, but by questioning the tool itself. Re-examining the things we do and do not see often open us up beyond typical comprehension. Through multi-media and interactive articles, Periscope hopes to bring readers, viewers, and listeners the ‘beyond’ that is not always very accessible. It is time to try out a new periscope and see what lies ahead, behind, and all around.

About the launch party:

Friday, October 15, 2010

8:00pm – 11:30pm

Please join us for an interactive party with live music (Albert Adams, Jim Harmon and a Surprise Guest!), 3 projectors projecting the magazine and other oddities, art, $5 dollar keg cup includes a raffle ticket, Bonfire and acoustic music by the French Broad River, and a chance to be a part of Periscope.

We'll be self-publishing the magazine (online for now; you know, poor economy, cheaper, etc etc etc). Sign up to receive the mag and come to the opening October 15th at Haw Creek Forge Studio (2000 Riverside Dr. Woodfin, NC) if you really want to know. It's our first issue, so we're still learning. But after the 15th, you'll know who we are.

Who are the folks publishing and editing Periscope? Not clear from the prospectus what they really are planning to do? Any further insights?
