Press release here:

Twelfth Night, which falls twelve nights after Christmas, kicks off Mardi Gras Season and celebrations across the nation. In Asheville on Thursday, January 6th, the celebration will include the annual Twelfth Night party in which the King and Queen of Asheville Mardi Gras 2011 will be selected at random from those willing to step up to the job. The King and Queen will lead the Mardi Gras Parade through downtown Asheville on Sunday, March 6th.

The evening’s festivities will begin at Mo Daddy’s at 7 p.m. Costumes are encouraged and the event is open to the public. Anyone interested in possibly becoming king or queen can opt to receive a slice of king cake. Two lucky revelers will end up with a small, plastic baby in their slice, dubbing them king and queen of Asheville Mardi Gras 2011. The night will continue as the LaZoom bus takes everyone to two mystery destinations in town to spread the word of our new king and queen. There will be a $5 fee to ride the LaZoom bus.

Asheville’s Mardi Gras planning crew, the “Mystic Mountain Krewe” will be celebrating with you throughout the Mardi Gras season culminating at the downtown parade on Sunday, March 6th. Check the Asheville Mardi Gras facebook group page for more details of Twelfth Night and other upcoming events throughout Mardi Gras season.
