Once bitten, twice snow-shy

Hey, look everybody! It’s Sunday morning and guess what – it’s snowing and there’s actually snow on the ground today.

Too bad nobody at WLOS could tell us this would happen. Mother Nature is just adding insult to WLOSers’ injury, now. She’s toying with the weather soothsayers like Duke’s basketball team toys with its ACC opponents.

See, here’s what happened. All day Friday, Mike Cuervo Cuevas and his buddies shouted from the rooftops about an impending massive snowstorm. In a news report Friday night, Cherub Charu compared it to the Blizzard of ’93. Only Saturday, nothing happened. A few flakes here and there.

So that left Julie Blunder apologizing for the eff up on the 6. Then Cuervo came back up off the bench to do his thing at 11.

“I know my kids were sure disappointed,” he told viewers. “I dont know what happened. We’ll try to explain what happened, next up,” Cuervo said, all humble and contrite.

So Cabana Boy goes through the cycle of dazzling weather graphics and maps and puts ’em in motion and shit, all to cover the fact that he totally and completely muffed his futurecast.

And when he comes to predicting what will happen Sunday, today, he totally downplays it. Once bitten, twice snow-shy, we suppose. But Cuervo was absolutely blase about today’s weather. A few flurries, a few bands of snow showers. Nothing much, was what he was telling us.

Well, it’s been snowing all morning, Mikey. Outside my kitchen window, where I had none Saturday, I know have about 2.5 inches. And it’s still coming down.

Here’s the other funny thing – at 11, Mike and Candy got into all this happy talk about the snow. “When are we gonna get some snow?” Candy whined.

Suddenly, snow was good, was positive, was fun for the kids. Just one day after snow was horror and danger and nastiness, according to the tone of WLOS weather-guessers and news readers, it was all sunshine and light.

Go figure.
