On the streets of Ashvegas: Pack Square pole dancer

Share

Thank you to the loyal readers who alerted me the Pack Square pole dancing on Tuesday morning. Turns out Cara, the twirler I profiled last year for Mountain Xpress. Cara said she couldn’t resist the lovely weather. She also couldn’t resist a great opportunity for more publicity. Cara flipped and spun until police asked her to move along, since she didn’t have a performance permit. They also said their phones were lit up by parents who said they didn’t want their children exposed to Cara’s gyrations. For her part, Cara insists her performances (and her pole dancing classes) are about empowering women, not seducing anybody.

I agree =) I’ve been taking classes for 2 years and I’m sorry Amy but I do feel empowered and a lot better about myself =) I feel more sexier and now appreciate more the skin that I’m in ^^ After every class I can’t help but walk out the door with my head held high. It’s given me so much confidence, that yes, I do recommend women to at least try it once =)

Though as for where she has chosen to just randomly put up her stage.. I will agree with you though that that was in appropriate. That is why classes are for 18+ and no children are allowed.

So where are these classes? How do I get more information about them?

Well, Amy C seems to be the expert about what does and does not empower women but I thought I would add a little something. Myself and a dozen other women attend a ‘pole dancing class’ regularly as a workout routine. It has greatly helped up get into shape, feel good, increase our sexual empowerment and feel like stronger women. Our marriages have improved as well as our self-esteem. It takes a lot of guts and courage and I applaud Cara for what she does. She’s a brilliant woman too if you’d take the time to get to know her…instead of making grand assumptions about Asheville itself. This is why many of us are here, because it is OPEN-MINDED and different!!!

So Amy C., I too am from Asheville, I’m 35. The Asheville of my youth was an abandoned shell of a city that once was, boards on the windows of all the closed shops etc…I’m not going to ask your age, however you must be REALLY old to remember Asheville as anything but that. It was like that for 20+ years before it was resurrected as a Freaky Phoenix form the ashes of what once was. Long live Asheville’s glorious re-birth as a cultural mecca!!! This is why I didn’t move to some big city to become a face in the crowd.

I made a bad comment earlier….I’m sorry…I am just in a ranting mood….let the girl do what she wants…..I just wish she would use better judgment about where she pole dances…..it is NOT empowering to women….it doesn’t really empower anyone….having common sense is empowering….people should try it sometime.

Are you kidding me!? She thinks this empowers women? What an idiot! Please move away! I miss the Asheville of my youth….not the FREAK show it has become now…..if she started doing this crap in front of my child, the cops would have had to restrain me….

What I don’t get is the whole "performance permit."

If an individual wants to sit on a park bench and play their guitar with no effort being made to "cash in", how is this considered a "performance"?

Granted her pole is a large piece of equipment … but unless she was asking for money what gives?

Do the proprietors of La Zoom have multiple "performance" permits to cover all the places that they have the skits on the sidewalks ……

You’ve gotta love this town!

Yes, yes, yes Cara. You are so right. Those ladies who were wasting time dialing the police dept. to complain should install a pole and get some exercise.
