On the streets of Ashvegas: Caffiend, the resurrection

Share

I’ve seen a number of Facebook postings and flyers around town advertising a benefit for Caffiend. I don’t have details, but there appears to be a concerted effort to resurrect the 24-hour coffee shop that had a tight little following on Merrimon Avenue.

The coffee shop closed back in June. From the Mountain Xpress:

Since its opening, the coffee shop has earned a reputation as a haven for goths, punks and other up-all-nighters, but Hebb says it actually was common ground for all types. After all, it was also home to the conservative club the Asheville Latte Republicans.

So it should come as no surprise that some folks would want to try and bring it back. Anybody have any more detail?

Ernesto / Matt ; Republican / Democrat ; Success / Failure ; punk rocker / hippie ; friend / foe ; insult or compliment — it’s all relative and we embrace it all for such is life and how dull it would be without all of the color.

To all of you who have worked so hard to make this benefit happen – we salute you!!!! It has been a pleasure and our highest thoughts and hopes are with you in the evolution of your future endeavor, the friendships yet to be made, the phamily’s yet to commune, and the joint ideas that have yet to be put into action.

The Details:

A lot of people are quite excited about this, and there are several who are VERY committed to the effort. They’re working tirelessly to make this a success, and thus far, it appears that it may very well be. Caffiend was a community in itself; and it meant a lot to much of its clientele; enough that they have been willing to go above and beyond to bring it back. Some people will make snide comments and some will try to tear the effort down, of course. That is simply the way it works, I suppose. Kudos to those who actually have the nerve to post their name though. An opinion is much more likely to be acknowledged and respected, even if it is contradictory, if it is known that the person behind it is secure enough in said opinion to be an individual rather than an Anon. And think what you would like, but quite frankly, it strikes me as rather tacky that you presume to know what anyone else might or might not want.
Really, if you dislike this business so much, who says you have to have anything to do with it? This is for the people who have a connection with the place, that see it as a home-away-from-home. Both the current crowd, and any others that come along in the future. So, if you must make snide comments, remember that it really makes no difference to those who are more concerned with their cause than with your anonymous pettiness, and if your goal is to discourage them, you really should have something to say that’s worth listening to. Preferably something you’re actually willing to put your name to. Until then, it will just be meaningless drivel from someone who isn’t even secure enough to lay claim to their own opinion.

I dont think Matt wants to add another failed endeavor to his resume.

How cliche the Ernesto like picture on the cover. So original . . . . .
