OK, sometimes somebody does win in the North Carolina lottery

Yes, sometimes people do actually win in the N.C. Education Lottery. This Canton man won earlier this month:

Football scores and yardage being announced over the radio led to a prize worth $255,649 for Gary Fouts of Canton. Fouts and his wife were shopping at South Side on Pisgah Drive in Canton when he
decided he wanted to get some Carolina Cash 5 tickets. They chose to pick their own numbers and wrote them down as they heard them on the radio.

Those numbers ended up matching all numbers drawn on the Nov. 2 drawing. The Fouts split their prize with two other winning ticket holders. The top prize that night had rolled to the
highest it has ever been – $766,947! The three winning tickets were worth $255,649 each.

Fouts woke up the morning following the drawing and checked his numbers on the North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) Web site. “I jumped up and screamed ‘We won!,'” explained Fouts during his visit to NCEL headquarters. He plans to pay off debt and take a vacation.
