From Asheville Citizen-Times‘ reporter Karen Chavez’s blog, Girls Gone Outdoors:
No doubt President and Mrs. Obama read a fabulous story today on the cover of the Asheville Citizen-Times about our very own beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway and how FINALLY just about the whole North Carolina side of the parkway is open for motor traffic, since they decided to make that one of their first stops in Asheville. (OR he read a fabulous book called “Best Hikes with Dogs: North Carolina).
Or, he was just out sightseeing. According to our inside reporter the Obamas have just been out hiking on the Mountains-to-Sea Trail just north of Asheville.
They started at the Ox Creek Road access and headed south, but didn’t get as far as Craven Gap before turning around.
This is a really nice, easily accessible trail for those who want to check it out – just head north from Asheville on the parkway to Milepost 375 and turn left at the sign for Bull Gap/Weaverville. Follow the trail’s white circle blazes on the trees, heading south, or to the left.

Is this the trail that leads to the old Rattlesnake Lodge remains?
Unofficial follow-up report: The walls are thin at the Grove Park Inn, and people in neighboring suites heard noises during the night that suggest the FLOTUS doted on the POTUS’ SCROTUS.
The POTUS didn’t really come to Asheville to play golf and eat barbecue, did he?
