Story from the Raleigh News & Observer:

RALEIGH — Transylvania County sheriff’s deputies and agents with the State Bureau of Investigation charged the husband of Michelle Young with her death, a little over three years after she was found beaten to death in her home.

Michelle Young’s husband, Jason Young, was taken into custody after he was indicted this morning by a Wake County grand jury. The sheriff’s investigation had focused on him as the primary suspect.

Jason Young has been charged with first degree murder, a Wake County sheriff’s spokeswoman said this morning.

The cards against Jason Young tilted heavily against him when earlier this year, a civil court judge in Raleigh ruled that he was responsible for Michelle Young’s death and ordered to pay her family more than $15 million

On Nov. 3, 2006, Michelle Young was found slain, lying face down in a pool of blood inside a home she shared with her husband at the Enchanted Oaks subdivision south of Raleigh.

One day before the third anniversary of her death, Wake Sheriff Donnie Harrison said his office, in tandem with the SBI and the Wake County District Attorney’s Office, expected their investigation to wind down “very soon.”

On the day that Meredith Fisher discovered her sister strangled and bludgeoned to death, she also found her then 2-year-old niece, Cassidy. The child was unharmed, but had tracked her mother’s blood throughout the couple’s home.

Jason Young claimed that he was out of town on a business trip when his wife was found dead. Nonetheless, he became a central figure in the sheriff’s investigation of his wife’s death.
