Unless things have change since the 90’s, most hotel jobs in Asheville pay poorly. If you work in the restaurant or bar (and if the restaurant is any good), you can do pretty well. Otherwise, you don’t earn much more than at McD’s. Salaried, mid-level managers work long hours and earn slightly more than their front-line employees (actually, less if you divide their pay by the hour).

Yes, i hope so too. I was approached by the group that did the original mockup to provide photos that would eventually be quite large and flashy. Some of the stuff they put together looked very arty and classy. They really seemed most interested in using local artists’ work (depending on what Indigo approved of course).

Let’s just hope that they have excellent soundproofing as this hotel sits right next to the interstate. I would not want to stay in a room on that side of the building for sure!

My brother-in-law is one of the supers on this job. It’s going to be an incredible building, with a ton of interior craft work that I’m hoping our local artisans will jump at.

You can look at renderings of the building at the website here:

This is of course the Hotel Indigo (done by IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), the largest Hotel chain – by number of rooms) in the world) with 13 stories, 89 standard guestrooms and 11 suites and underground parking. It is expected to open the summer 2009.
