N.C. Governor’s Western Residence on Town Mountain

The Governor’s Western Residence on Town Mountain. How much taxpayer money do we sink into keeping up this estate — and it is an estate — when the governor never uses this place anyway?

I went to see this residence today. It is spectacular! In an understated, blending into the mountain-top sort of way.

Exterior is constructed of stone and alpine siding. Inside there are a lot of natural materials; wood, stone, slate and massive windows with stunning views.
Reminds me of a Frank Lloyd Wright house.

Built in 1939 for Tom Briner, owner of Good Humor Ice Cream. Don’t know how it transitioned to the AVL Chamber of Commerce but they donated it to the state in 1964. It has served 9 governors, is used for other govt gatherings and is rented for special events.

Gov was there today and in speaking with one of his security people, he informed me that the Gov visits once or twice a month.

Jason you are wrong. The Governor loves our Mountains of NC and visits many times a year. Open for CHRISTMAS Season to the public!!!!

I guess Jason Sanford has figured out by now that the taxpayer money spent on this place is $0.
