Mumpower, e-mailing his way to victory

Ready to be spammed by the Mumpower Express?

Let us rephrase: Ready to be spammed even more by candidate Carl Mumpower? While everyone is talking about the dude coining a new term, we’re worried about more Mump mail.

Over the years, Mumpower has perfected the use of e-mail as megaphone. Didn’t hear him say something at the City Council meeting? Don’t worry, he’ll send you an e-mail. Miss that little item in the agenda packet? Don’t worry, he’ll send you an e-mail. Miss that inconsequential quote on a non-issue in the congressional race? Yeah, you get the idea.

Mumpower, who is running for the 11th Congressional District’s U.S. House seat now held by U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler, says every e-mail he will send out this campaign season is worth “a dollar plus,” and he intends to spend liberally in this department.

Says Mumpower: “Until such time as the media outlets feel it is appropriate to give me an equal shot at the voter’s eyes and ears, I will use every tool in the box to reach people.” “This is a new century, calling for new methods, and cyberspace has unlimited untapped potentials for a candidate with a mission and the courage to have an honest voice.”

O hell, here’s the whole damn e-mail, bad comma usage and improper quote marks and all. Expect many, many more:

11th District Congressional candidate, Carl Mumpower, has announced his intentions to use email lists as a primary campaign strategy.

Titled, the “Mumpower Express”, the effort embraces the past successes of liberal bloggers and conservative talk show hosts in bypassing high cost advertising in favor of direct contacts with the voters.

“Dollars matter in this campaign, but I am not going to get lost in that game”, says Mumpower. “One way to be a serious candidate is to send out regular communications and ask everyone to copy their permitted email lists.” “Every relayed email is worth a dollar plus and it saves us all the embarrassment of traditional campaign models that have more to do with money than principles.”

“I don’t care if people agree or disagree with me – I just want as many folks as possible to know where I stand on the issues and then let them do what they feel best in the voting booth a year from now.”

“Until such time as the media outlets feel it is appropriate to give me an equal shot at the voter’s eyes and ears, I will use every tool in the box to reach people.” “This is a new century, calling for new methods, and cyberspace has unlimited untapped potentials for a candidate with a mission and the courage to have an honest voice.”

Since he’s asking for votes for Congress, and therefore the pork that comes with it, maybe the criteria of the CAN-SPAM act might be loose enough to be used in fighting this junk email.
