Here’s the press release and call to action:
As you know, MAIN is working to bring broadband Internet service to underserved areas in WNC. One crucial step toward reaching this goal is securing funding. Recently we submitted an idea to change.org called, “Local Network Stimulus: A ‘Green’ Broadband Policy,” which asks that local networks be given priority for stimulus funding. In less than two weeks, this “idea” has risen from 53nd place to 13th place, showing that citizens are concerned about this issue. The deadline for votes is tonight and we need about 300 more votes to move on to the next round.
If you are interested in supporting this effort, please blog about it, and don’t forget to log onto change.org and vote!

Friends — President-elect Obama’s economic stimulus package will include funding for broadband infrastructure in underserved areas like western North Carolina.
The usual suspects are lining up to cash in:
But we can tell Congress and the new administration: This is no time for
business as usual.Local Networks First!
Communities across America have been building their own broadband
networks. Tell Washington that local networks should get first priority
for economic stimulus funding. Here’s why: http://www.main.nc.us/localnetworks
If you agree, please take a moment to do two simple things:
1. Go to: http://www.change.org/ideas . . . and vote for “Local Network
Stimulus: A ‘Green’ Broadband Policy.” [Look for the search tool at the
top right, and enter “local network”.]2. Then go to: http://change.gov/page/s/yourstory . . . and tell
President-elect Obama why local broadband networks are . . . real change
we can believe in.Building our own infrastructure . . . is real media reform.
