More on new WLOS weather bunny Pamela Wright

Share

Loyal reader Bugs pointed me to this site, which contains updates on various media people, and helped me connect the dots in terms of the new WLOS weather bunny, Pamela Wright

Pamela Wright is married to Trip Howell, and the two own Clingman Cafe down near the River Arts District. The cafe, much like 12 Bones, has added a vibrancy down there. Trip is a great guy whom I’ve met and talked with many times at his restaurant. I’ve never met his wife, but knew her to be an experienced weather sooth-sayer with tons of experience.

So now it’s starting to make sense, although I still don’t know what’s up with Mike Cuevas. WLOS recently was advertising for “chief meteorologist” and hired Wright, so does that mean Cuevas is out? I don’t know.

Please stop, I am a 30 something English girl who grew up with the children's rhyme "the weather bunnies, will it rain or will it shine, may it snow etc……." get over yourselves , the term weather bunny is completely innocent.

Hope that means the vampiric looking prince of darkness of weather has moved on to another market.

Sorry to see Mike leave,he is quite good!! Mike betes was good to and he left for the weather channel. I remember Pamela Wright from Miami where I l grew up she was a local weather person and I always liked her and was so happy to see her face on WLOS I hope she stays there she would be a great asset to ch 13.

With all of the of the other nut cases in the"weather dept" at WLOS, what is the big deal?

I know Pamela, and she’s a smart and successful woman. Her and her husband own the Clingman Cafe.

Cuevas wears nice suits, but someone needs to inform him that the bottom button of a suit coat or sport coat is NEVER buttoned. Just a little male fashion tip.

Here’s a little more, from one of her previous stations:

Really Ashvegas! Bunny?! Tsk tsk. Thanks for the smile!

Jason August 5, 2009 - 8:44 pm

She is a stand in that they can call in at the last notice from what I know. Cuevas is gone. WLOS is still looking for chief.

lighten up ladies...or get some! August 5, 2009 - 6:58 pm

Ash, seriously, don’t stop what you are doing, it is GREAT!! The criticism is just that, and it’s sad that they are so easily offended by YOUR blog. If they want to see manly men, then they can create their own blog. I’ve got you bookmarked, check daily, and love the great info that is much better than reading a citizen times.. "Your ad here"? Keep em coming. Great job. Ladies, get over yourselves and find a hobby besides complaining. This is American, remember? God bless freedom

It’s all very much "much ado about nuthin’"

Who needs a weather person on TV? You have a computer, right? I use Firefox and have Foxcaster. 3 day weather summary at a glance, along with satellite imagery my just mousing over it.

Poof. I have all the weather info I need. If I click the "5" button, I get the five day forecast, and if there is a weather even I get a stop sign with an exclamation point in it indicating a Severe Weather Alert.

No drama, no bad hair, just the information I need to plan my day. Convertible? Motorcycle? Or drive the old short bus in rain… 😉

OK, how about "Weather Bullock"??? And she’s STILL better than Cuevas. Jay Siltzer is better than Cuevas, who seems creepy. But he is one of the best-dressed weather bunnies on TV. Really. Got to admit, Cuevas is a sharp-dressed bunny.

Thanks for keeping us informed on WLOS stuff. I wonder about these new faces when I see them and when the old ones disappear and this is really the only place you can go for an explanation of the behind-the-scenes tidbits. Keep up the good work.

By the way, I propose a gender-neutral term, like: "weathertron".

greenashevilleblogspot.com August 5, 2009 - 3:30 pm

Bugs Bunny would be better than Cuevas…

Orange Cat August 5, 2009 - 3:24 pm

She doesn’t look like a bunny or a rabbit. She looks like Sandra Bullock.

mountaingal August 5, 2009 - 3:12 pm

As I understand it, she is just freelancing for the station.

Madison August 5, 2009 - 2:55 pm

I’m a woman too, but I do take exception to terms like "bunny". It’s just not necessary or appropriate in 2009.

The pics of the women on here remind me of trashy tabloids. Maybe that is what Jason Sanford is going for. If so, it is a downgrade of a good blog.

Mountain Man August 5, 2009 - 2:41 pm

On the surface it sounds to me like Wright is using her Meteorology background to be a temp for WLOS while the make their hire for a new chief…I may be wrong on that but from the link posted that’s my guess.

BTW, funny you use the term "weather bunny" because I wasn’t thinking bunny as much as I was thinking another term used.

mike August 5, 2009 - 2:29 pm

Do you have a way to filter out the feminazi/PC/no-sense-of-humor crowd from this blog? It’s getting a bit tiresome, having to read their incessant whining over what you write on your own personal blog.

Here we go August 5, 2009 - 2:18 pm

I knew someone would take "offense" at the weather bunny term. In newsrooms, it’s a pretty common phrase, which some say orginates from the first "hot" weather woman, Bunny North. It’s probably a myth, but newsrooms are generally tough, un-PC places where the language is on occasion what you’d hear in a corner dive bar. If that’s the "worst" thing anyone can say about this new WLOSer, big deal. She’s bound to be better than Cuevas, who is himself a bit of a bunny. And yes, I am a woman. (And BTW, the Your Ad Here photos on this blog don’t bother me, either. January Jones is gorgeous. Get over it.)

Jennifer S. August 5, 2009 - 2:07 pm

My friend, bunny or experienced soothsayer? What is this, Mad Men?

Lorraine August 5, 2009 - 1:45 pm

And why do we have to refer to the new weather person as a "Weather Bunny"?

Does she look like a rabbit –or– are you perhaps referring to the Playboy bunny?

References like this are demeaning and unnecessary.
