Here’s a good note from a loyal reader, just fleshing out more of some of the recent Asheville rumors I’ve been trafficking in. If anyone has more information, please leave a comment or email me.
Here’s what I boiled down from the note:
On Momentum, the Health Adventure’s new children’s science museum, the word is that the nonprofit muffed its fundraising by banking on a $16 million grant from the federal government via former U.S. Rep. Charles Taylor. The money never came through, but the Health Adventure got started on moving dirt anyway – they needed to do that to secure other funding that did come through. But the organization is still short of its fundraising goal, and not much action at the site lately.
On the former director of the Western Carolina Rescue Ministries: the word is that the former director wasn’t transparent enough in his financial accounting. That’s all I know. The nonprofit’s board is apparently happy with the change in leadership.
On the location of the Beer City Festival: There are apparently still negotiations going on between the festival organizers and the city, but it seems that everyone is aiming to have it on Roger McGuire Green in the new Pack Square Park. No word on whether that site will be finalized. We’re still in wait-and-see mode.
