Moog Music, Paste magazine team up to offer ‘Live at Moog’ series

The classic Moog synthesizer, loved and loathed as a staple of 1970s symphonic rock, has been undergoing a renaissance of late. It has been dubbed heavy enough for the metalhead, and yet remains tender and affecting enough for the lit-rocker.

Here at Paste, we think this iconic instrument is long overdue for a fitting tribute, so we’re happy to unveil a web series called “Live at Moog Music”—a series of performances recorded at the Moog Music Factory in Asheville, North Carolina. Starting today, you’ll be treated to a new episode a week for the next five weeks.

The bands who participated in the series were given full access to Moog Music’s arsenal of synthesizers, instruments and effects pedals to craft original and re-arranged tunes for your eyes and ears. Just to show you how totally for serious this is, we’re starting this thing off on the right foot: the stars of the first episode are none other than the alt-rock pioneers of Yo La Tengo. Performances by White Rabbits, Matisyahu, Erin McKeown, Jojo Hermann, Pretty Lights, moe. and Medeski, Martin and Wood are on the docket for the next month and a half.
